Coldon Common 1 v WellowYouth 2

Wellow secured second place and automatic promotion with another win, the fourth in eight days away to Colden Common. The game started evenly with good football being played by both sides but it was Wellow that made the breakthrough when Eason Ryan unselfishly passed to Harry Bateman whose shot found the net beyond the outstretched arms of the keeper. Their second followed five minutes later with a wonderful individual effort by Theo Wolfarth who danced his way past numerous defenders and lifted the ball over the keeper to score a contender for goal of the season. The Colden Common offence always looked dangerous but the Wellow defence held firm, Jed Musslewhite on the right having a particularly good game. The second half remained goalless for both teams with Wellow’s passing play a joy to watch but it was Colden Common who came closest from a free kick only to be denied by Ben Jenden in goal who made a stunning save. There is no doubt that if they had played like this all season then the title would have been more of a reality, saying that there is still a remote chance after a Sky Blue’s loss to Littleton but even if not, all bodes well for a season in Division two.

WellowYouth 6 v Crofton Saints 2

Wellow hosted Crofton Saints on this weather rearranged evening fixture and started quickly when Theo Wolfarth played Louis Rendall in who rounded a defender and slotted it home. Crofton were quickly on level terms when a long range effort looped over Ben Jenden in goal. From then on however it was Wellow all the way as they dominated midfield and started creating chances with ease. Rendalls second came when he burst through and lifted the ball over the stranded keeper. Liam Eyre put the busy Shaun Reynolds in for the third after Rendalls free kick rebounded back. It was Rendall again the creator for the fourth, this time putting Skeates through for a tap in. The fifth and sixth came in quick succession, both scored by Sam Hilton, the first a lob over the keeper and the second a shot from the edge of the area. A late consolation goal for Crofton after a high bounce off of dry ground deceived Jenden but it did not take away what was a dominant performance.

WellowYouth 1 v Sky Blues 0

For the second time in three games Wellow paid the price for starting slowly on a difficult pitch. Chamberlayne played a tight game giving the Wellow players little time on the ball and not allowing them to play their natural passing game. The pressure told early on when a mix up in the area allowed Chamberlayne to grab a goal, following by another after a neat cross and tap in. The third came just before half time giving Wellow a mountain to climb in the second half. To their credit, Wellow played some good football in the second half with Louis Rendall finding some form and the ever present Charlie Davis solid in defence. But the pressure failed to produce results in a somewhat short second half and Wellow now have a lot of practise ground work to do before their next match.
