Weston Sports 1 v Wellow Youth 1

Wellow started brightly in this hard fought contest, with Billy Galton and Matthew Shobbrook combining well to put pressure on the Weston goal. After a sustained period of attack Wellow were rewarded as Matthew Webb slotted a long pass through the Weston midfield to George Ludlam and his instinctive volley opened the scoring. Shortly afterwards a Danny Brock shot ricocheted off a Weston defender and fell to the feet of William Gale, whose short range tap was cleared off the line.  In the second half a switch of tactics saw Sam Reynolds and Otis Rees-Long take up the Wellow attack and the pairing almost paid off with a number of near misses.  As Weston came back at Wellow they were frustrated by outstanding goalkeeping from Adam Kelly that culminated in a penalty save towards the end of the half.  In the end however Weston finished the match strongly and broke through the Wellow defence late on to equalise.

Wellow Youth 1 v Romsey Town Panthers 4

This mid table clash started well for Wellow with Danny Brock and George Ludlam combining to create some early chances.  Romsey were also lively, pressuring the Wellow defence of William Gale and Matthew Webb more and more as the half progressed.  Otis Rees-Long in the Wellow goal made several spectacular saves but eventually Romsey broke through to score.  Wellow responded well from this opening goal with a Matthew Shobbrook corner kick finding Sam Reynolds who slotted the ball past the Romsey keeper, to keep Wellow in the match.  In the second half a change of midfield saw Adam Kelly and Billy Galton add some fresh legs to a tired Wellow side but, despite some creative play, Romsey capitalised and finished the stronger side, scoring a further three goals.

Wellow Youth 1 v Oakwood Rangers 1

This was open and creative match between two well organised and talented teams.  Oakwood started the brighter of the two sides and, despite some extraordinary goalkeeping from Otis Rees-Long and a solid defensive performance from Adam Kelly and William Gale, they led by a goal going into half time.  In the second half Wellow’s Matthew Shobrook and George Ludlam led a series of counter attacks that saw Wellow begin to assert themselves.  This pressure paid off when the quick feet of Sam Reynolds fed a long cross to Matthew Webb whose curling shot levelled the scores. A final push from Wellow, saw to George Ludlam coming close to netting the winner but time run out and in the end Wellow had to settle for the draw.

Wellow Youth 1 v Hythe Strikers 3

In sub-zero temperatures this match proved to be a real challenge for Wellow who faced  a strong Hythe side.  The early play was fairly evenly matched with the Wellow defence of Matthew Webb and Danny Brock feeding a number of counter attacks through William Gale and Sam Reynolds.  In the end it was Hythe that opened the scoring, with a close range shot that Wellow keeper Adam Kelly had no chance of saving.  Despite the setback Wellow persevered and were rewarded when Otis Rees-Long scored an impressive solo goal just before half time.  In the second half Wellow continued to pressure the Hythe goal through strikers Matthew Shobbrook and George Ludlam, but despite coming close, it was Hythe who took the final glory with two goals late on that secured them the win.
